The Executive Order number 9066 was the authorization of the internment of thousands of Japanese Americans. It was due to the rising hysteria because of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It granted power to the Secretary of War to intern and provide shelter for these people. Once they enter the camps they are subjected to all of its rules and restrictions. Reason was to control the movement of enemy aliens in the country.

In the Infamy Speech Roosevelt centered it around the unhonorable workings of the Japanese government. He worked to channel the anger at pearl harbor onto the future of the war. Changing anger into a palpable thing that could be worked and manipulated for the war effort. He emphasized how America was the definite victim and retaliating was the right path to go on. To defend our honor we only had one choice but to strike back. He struck below the belt in not the form of idealism but patriotism for the country. He said how very many American lives had been lost. His final move was to silence the isolationist movement in an effort to keep America on the world stage.

In early 1935 racial segregation was normal in public schools across America. Linda, a young African American had to walk several miles to her black school when the white one was just seven blocks away. Oliver Brown tried to enroll her in the white elementary school but the principal refused. He went to the NAACP for help and they were eager to give it. This court case turned into Brown vs. Board of Education. The Board argued that starting blacks early in school would prepare them for segregation they would face in later life. After it war brought to the Supreme Court they finally struck down the precident set by Plessy vs. Ferguson making seperate but eqal unconstitutional.

The Truman Doctrine is about how the Greek government appealed to America for financial aid in a time of crisis. Truman goes on about how Greece is not a rich country and how they lack natural resources so they had to work very hard to make ends meet. They are totally out of money to fund importing of even the basic essentials. He states that they are not only in trouble with their economy but also communist rebels who are trying to overthrow the government. One of the most powerful lines I think is how Greece has no other democratic countries it can turn to other than the USA. Later he also states that not only Greece but Turkey is also in need of assistance from America. He discusses how there are two forms of government, one in which majority has a say and the other where the minority forces their will onto the majority. He ends with asking Congress to extend help to both of these foreign countries in light of protecting democracy.

Also known to some as the pact of Paris for that was the city it was created in. It was an effort to prevent war from once again consuming the nations. However it had little effect in stopping WWII from breaking out. Some parts focused on disarmament and others with the cooperation with the League of Nations. Some even tried to make war illegal outright. This was immensely popular after the destruction left in the wake of the Great War.

From what I gather of Hoover's opening he is a no nonsense president, delivering the bad news straight up and honest for everyone to see and acknowledge. However he states how the country can get through the fear and luckily they are only material things he states. He also states how the taxes are rising and the peoples ability to pay is falling, and the farmers cannot find any markets to sell their crops and produce. He states that even in the darkest hour the people should still have hope for what they faced was not even close to what their forefathers had to overcome, therefore nothing is un-defeatable and we must face it head on without fear. He tries to up the peoples morale by stating that happiness does not lie with material things but with the thrill of achievement and creative effort. His plan is to put people to work and accomplishing many needed tasks for the good of the country. To prevent this from ever happening again two safeguards must take place, first supervision of banking and a sound currency.

Wilson's fourteen points were idealistic to say the least and none but one was included in the final accepted draft. They ranged from absolute freedom on the seas in war and peace, basically the opposite of what the Germans did with unrestricted warfare. To remove all economic barriers AKA tariffs, what country is going to give up its tariffs that protect its home businesses? All countries will lower their armies+navies+air force. Belgium be restored, evacuation of Russia. Readjusting Italy's boundaries. And most noticeably the League of Nations which would bring about these fourteen points to a downfall.

Schenck Vs United States. Schneck was accused of conspiracy in three different accounts, first by violating the Espionage Act by attempting to cause insubordination in the military and naval forces, obstructing the recruited and enlisted servicemen and finally while the US was at war with Germany he willfully conspired to printed circulate pamphlets to accepted men in the military. However his defense was the search warrant was invalid because it was issued against the headquarters and not his home. The courts accused him of truning men against he government with his pamphlets with 'conscripted wording' This is just a return to Adams Alien and Sedition acts to help control the populous so as to not make the government look bad, however this IS violating the Bill of Rights.

Keating-Owen Child labor act of 1916, after the census revealed that at least 2 million underage children worked in jobs a national movement to end child labor ensued. To limit work hours and more strictly enforce child labor laws this act was passed in a hopes of doing such things. One of the most effective pushes for this to happen came from Charles Dickens and his book Oliver Twist which was widely popular. However this act was later ruled unconstitutional because it overstepped the power of Congress in interstate commerce.

Woodrow Wilson's first inaugural address summed up many things that he thought should and had happened. The first paragraphs talk about how old habits that had been with America for years suddenly were seen in a new light, and not a very good one at that. People started to realize old habits were mistakes. He continues with how not everything is bad but the "gold has become corroded" how we have squandered nature and not put human lives above the worth of enterprise. We must correct the evil without disturbing the good. The government is about to protect the people men, women and children. Individual rights must stand above all in the fight for justice and not be lost in the waves of ignorance. He finishes by exclaiming how he will do everything in his power to grant this new passion of man, the one of humanity.

This act followed the Sherman Antitrust act in order to leash and stop big business from disrupting commerce. It set down a list of rules to help limit cooperate power such as stopping price discrimination. A big one was the acceptance, or lack there of, of commissions. So creating deals with companies and then offering discounts was now officially against the law. It continues with how the company cannot give away goods to one customer unless it is willing to do so to all its customers. The last big one is that no persons or person can get the stock of multiple companies because this tends to create monopolies. Also these rules are not applicable to labor unions.

The Daws act was a law passed that allowed for the president to break up reservation land that was given to the Indians. Then to pass the land out to individuals. Each family was given part of this broken up land to compesate. There were however specific groups of people exempted from this law.

William Jennings Bryan delivered the 'cross of gold' speech concerning what to do about the silver or gold debate. It was about bimetallism, or to increase the base of silver for the money standard which would help the poor and farmers who had surplus, and hopefully reverse deflation. Bryan's talks about how they are not looking for war just an answer. For their petitions were ignored and scorned same with their entreaties. He states that another Andrew Jackson is needed to upset the power of the wealthy. Bryan's is also in favor of the income tax which some decreed as unconstitutional. The ending however is what is most famous and where the name of this speech comes from, cross of gold, or what Bryan's says not crucifying man upon the cross of gold.

The populous party emerged from farmers forming Grange's. Later they organized and formed the Populous party that competed with the democratic party for votes. This platform states that the rich steal from the labor of the poor creating a huge rift of tramps and millionaires. Continuing on about how silver the currency since the dawn of time, is now being used to enrich the gold holders. The wealth of a person stays with the man who created it and it will not be taken away by industry. The populous party continues with how the government would and should get involved with the railroads, to regulate them. Moving on to finance they want safe, sound currency dependable by the government. Interestingly the populous party wants to take land away from aliens... i wonder why... Then the ending is with sentiments of the resolved or recognized parteis.

Many people wanted to go to war in Cuba who desperately wanted freedom Spain. The yellow journalists would make up headlines whether they were true or not to play up sympathy. One such occasion that caused much havoc was the blame on the sinking of the USS Maine. Basically McKinley goes on about how he supports the war and that it had been dragging out for three years. The atrocities that they found in Cuba were inconceivable. Because of this it was directly affecting American citizens and the baseline, the economy. McKinley urges that we should either become neutral or commit fully to the war with more troops. He ends with the intolerable act of the Maine being blown up, just another reason to stop the madness.
