LAD # 32
From what I gather of Hoover's opening he is a no nonsense president, delivering the bad news straight up and honest for everyone to see and acknowledge. However he states how the country can get through the fear and luckily they are only material things he states. He also states how the taxes are rising and the peoples ability to pay is falling, and the farmers cannot find any markets to sell their crops and produce. He states that even in the darkest hour the people should still have hope for what they faced was not even close to what their forefathers had to overcome, therefore nothing is un-defeatable and we must face it head on without fear. He tries to up the peoples morale by stating that happiness does not lie with material things but with the thrill of achievement and creative effort. His plan is to put people to work and accomplishing many needed tasks for the good of the country. To prevent this from ever happening again two safeguards must take place, first supervision of banking and a sound currency.
