The concepts in the Mayflower Compact include these, the colonists would band together for the common good of each other. And with the witness of god and others they would meet together for the good of their colony, also makeing laws, acts, ordinances, and constitutions. Basically these people banned together for the saftey of numbers and to keep order amoungst themselves to prevent chaos.
Old and New worlds are mixed into the Mayflower Compact in what I think is specified by who they claim as witnesses and where they signed the actual document. They claim God (a given of both worlds) King James, who is old world, also France, Ireland also Old world. They claim these rigths for the land of Virginia, a New world item included. The last New world assosiation they use is Cape-Cod where they signed the actual compact.
A big difference that I first noticed is the length, the Mayflower Compact sort of just promised that the colonists would work together for the better of the colony but the Fundimental Order was very specific on what would happen, and when it would happen. It was also much more organized, with an intro paragraph then numbered laws to be followed.
I think the colonists decided to write everything down in a constitution there and then to prevent "confusion" and/or people getting away with something that they could have origianlly gotten around. This also sets out exactly what is going on and when, just like Hammurabi's Code. All the laws are there for everyone to see and agree upon and if you dont follow those then punishment is iminent.
Wow for this question it is basically in every law, most of them limited years in which people could be in power. This is so new people could be switched out in a couple of years if they were corrupt, thus not in power for life. Basically stopping an Aristocracy from happening, ever. They had a huge fear of this because many of them came to the colonies to escape persecution made by this way of government. They safeguarded from this by creating, limited years in which people could serve, a voteing system so each qualified person could vote. Also the fact that there were many people in power, not just one, so no one person could get to powerful, also creating a primitive version of "checks and balances" Meeting were created to also help with the checks and balances
i have to say, these people were REALLY paraniod about giveing the government to much power, almost a little to much...
