In early 1935 racial
segregation was normal in public schools across America. Linda, a young
African American had to walk several miles to her black school when the white one was just seven blocks away. Oliver Brown tried to enroll her in the white elementary school but the principal refused. He went to the NAACP for help and they were
eager to give it. This court case turned into Brown vs. Board of Education. The Board argued that starting blacks early in school would prepare them for
segregation they would face in later life. After it war brought to the
Supreme Court they finally struck down the precident set by Plessy vs. Ferguson making seperate but eqal unconstitutional.
